Sun Tzu, it is only my hunch, but I believe they raised the age to 18 because most likely the "younger" generation is more western inclined -- teenagers interested in Hillary Duff or whoever is the current pop star or interested in the latest tech device produced by the west. And, I would also suspect that the youngsters would be less likely to vote for the conservatives and religious politicians. Probably all the voters between 15 and 18 voted for the more liberal candidates. Don't know if you know, but thought they restricted internet access recently in Iran, this too, would be utilized by the younger rather than older population. So I see it as a way to preserve, as best they could, the status-quo of Ahmedinajad and the mullahs. It may not last, but they are trying. GR
