I checked retail prices just now. A 20GB 1.8" hard drive was shipping retail for $77 in single quantities. Disk drive prices keep falling while capacity increases. I have not added much to my digital music in the last six months yet my collection of MP3s is over 40GB. An 80GB MP3 player might be of interest to me.

NAND is gaining market share. Flash memory will gain market share. I am seeing people doing incremental backups on USB thumb drives. Magnetic media is not dead, but solid state will continue to gain market share. After all, thumb drives with more capacity than a CD are now common.
