"Sudbury has no nickel left. They mined the rim out 20 years ago" Heck, when I visited Creighton 15 years ago, they were going full speed. Had already mined out 125 million tons still had 175 million tons left. Every year they find more ore on the rim.

I am sure Xstrata and CRVD who just bot out Falconbridge and Inco do not believe all the ore on the rim is gone.

"all the ore occurs at embayments in the sedminentary sublayer" not true. ore also occurs in the dikes.

Eric, I sense (but do not share) Koan's frustration when you quote the anti Global Warming scientists. Those geoscientists, who have extensively studied the Sudbury basin and do not subscribe to the giant meteor theory are even more rare than the anti global warming guys. As Neil Armstrong and his crew on the moon said when examining the geology there and referring to the shatter cones around the craters "just like at Sudbury" . How does your volcano theory explain the shatter cones?

About ten years ago (long after the 1964 thesis you quote) they (government plus industry) conducted deep seismic work across the basin. It is over my head! However, results supported the meteor theory.

I have attended several seminars and talked to more than 100 geologists who are/have worked in the Sudbury area. In the past 25 years, nobody has mentioned your theory. (prior to this there were a few, but I had thought they were all converted.)
