Plan A should have been "Contain Saddam as a rickety old nutcase and focus on the oil" - that's what realpolitik is all about. Now the transformation fantasy has turned into the civil war nightmare that no one is going to contain, neither the US or regional players. So we should get back to doing what we do best, which is power projection to guarantee international economic interests, i.e. the flow of oil.
