Motorola Renews Relationship With Freescale for Next-Generation 2G and 3G Chipset Platforms

LIBERTYVILLE, Ill. and AUSTIN, Texas, Feb. 8 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT - News), a global leader in mobile communications and seamless mobility solutions, has reaffirmed its strategic relationship with Freescale Semiconductor by selecting the Austin-based company as a preferred supplier of 2G and 3G chipset platforms through 2009.

"Freescale is an important supplier of chipset solutions for several new handset designs that we'll announce in the future," said Ron Garriques, president of Motorola's Mobile Devices business. "As a preferred supplier, we expect Freescale to help drive 2G and 3G innovations that will transform the mobile communications experience for wireless operators and consumers."

Under the supply agreement, Freescale plans to deliver baseband, power management, RF transceivers and power amplifier technologies for incorporation across multiple Motorola handset designs. Additionally, Motorola expects Freescale to deliver several new chipset solutions for next-generation EDGE, 3G and multimedia handsets.

Motorola incorporates Freescale chipset solutions into several of the world's most popular handset designs, including MOTORAZR, MOTOPEBL, MOTOSLVR and MOTOKRZR K1.
