You are being quite selective of your quotes to promote your viewpoint, which is to be expected. I am pointing out that you are completely missing what the article is about. The very first line:

"The job openings, hires, and total separations rates were essentially unchanged in December, the Bureau of Labor Statistics of the U.S. Department of Labor reported today."

December is supposed to be an expansion month due to Christmas seasonal hiring. They are pointing out that it wasn't.

and here is the line that directly contradicts your selection of a statement relating to the specific month of December.

"Over the year, the job openings rate increased in nearly half the industries and decreased only in construction and in finance and insurance."

This thread deals with construction, finance, and to some extent insurance. What an odd coincidence that folks are making somewhat bearish posts to this thread.
