I could tell the troops that you are terribly thick, and the vast bulk of them would readily agree.

They know the cause for which they fight, and they would agree you are so clueless that you don't know it, and you cannot therefore even offer an argument against it (and of course, you never have).

By the by, this all is too true, and does make you terribly clueless.
