The trouble with the line of thinking (as expressed in the dialogue leading to this post) is that you are on a big ship.

It doesn't matter that the Captain's navigation is imperfect.

If the ship goes down you go with it. Or go into slavery or become an oarsman for a pirate's galley.

Then you will not have the choice you once had on an imperfect vessel that was the best of the lot.
