Of course there isn't an extensive detailed predetermined agenda. But the voters vote for candidates with general ideas and ideologies that match theirs, or with positions on current major issues that are a general match for the voters positions. Yes the issues aren't the only consideration, charisma and personality, personal history, intellectual ability, impressions of the candidates character, and opinions on the candidates opponent all matter. But voters do have a general impression of the candidates ideas and policies and that typically plays a major role in determining who they vote for.

The issue is flip flopping and polls. Republicans are under the misunderstanding that its wrong for a leader to pay attention to what his/her constituents want. Republicans also seem to believe that even with new evidence that suggest things are not going well, a leader must maintain the course no matter what.

Early on in school, I learned that both were very stupid thinking.

If you vote for a candidate who will change his positions every time the polls shift, then you never know what your going to get. You could vote for someone because you support their current ideas, and then the polls shift a bit and now he's opposed to your positions.

Oh BS. Look how long it took the American public to change its position on the Iraqi war. Constituencies don't change their thinking overnite......esp. in this country.

Republicans are being childish over this issue.
