countries like India, Pakistan, Israel did that and walked away. We in the US should expect more of the same..

India and Pakistan are in one category; for many years the US had trade limitations and the US tried applying pressure on them to sign the NPT. Occasionally, someone from the State Department mumbles something about Israel and the NPT when they are pressed on it. The US has never applied pressure of any kind on Israel to sign the NPT. Which is yet another reason why other countries point out the obvious double standard.

There's folklore that Nixon? agreed that the US would not put pressure on Israel to sign the NPT if Israel agreed not to announce they had nuclear weapons. I have no idea whether that's true. It seems like an odd agreement to arrive at.
