Nortel also does a lot of business with the US government. More in the public service sector though. Maybe NT will be the one eyed jack that gets passed across the table to get the industry onto the next level of betting. Doubt it though. Zafirofski doesn't seem like someone who would kowtow to the interests of others. So, for him to pass the flag, he'd have to be moving up the ladder.

By the end of this year, Nortel needs to move further on reorganizing their capital structure. On that front, investors should be happy to see the stashing of $900M in cash during the last quarter. Such cash generation is new to the likes of Nortel. We will have to wait for the details, but I suspect most of the funds resulted from non operational matters.

Bring together SI-NOK-NT would be a major undertaking. It is hard to see it happening before restructuring efforts are completed on all sides of the ledger and on both sides of the pond.
