Way off on the pharmodynamics...

Fenfluramines do not cause valvular damage through a blockage mechanism. The EKG's are generally totally inconsistent with a blockage-induced problem. No one really knows what is happening. My own personal theory is that the drugs may cause some type of electric or electrolytic imbalance in the normal functioning of the valves. Such imbalances can easily cause the types of damage being observed. It would also explain why the damage appears to heal. Obstructions would cause permanent damage and would leave traces on an EKG that a cardio. should be able to detect.

Anyways, it hasn't been proven and may in fact be tied to the underlying obesity issues. We'll see. The problem now is that doctors are not always ethical in presenting their group studies (ie. excluding patients who don't support their thesis), so we'll have to wait and see what happens.

In regards to the indemnity/liabilty question... IPIC would only be liable IF it is proven that they KNEW (not suspected) that there were side-effects that were not adequately presented. Basically, unless they can be shown to have buried data that showed these problems, there's almost no way for them to be held liable. Remember as well, if they did in fact hide such data, they will face federal charges as well (misrepresentation to the FDA is a federal offense).

The stock's strength is not THAT surprising -- it's been pounded, and unless citicoline and bucindolol trials are flops, there is still value there.
