Here are some of the new comments on Barack Obama from the New York Times website...All these were posted in the last few hours...

I was at the rally today in Ames, Iowa, which was staged at Hilton Coliseum on the Iowa State University campus.

There were well over 6000 very enthusiastic people there, but that may be underestimating (I’m sure the number of enthusiastic people was far greater).

I’ve seen my share of candidates here in Iowa. I was impressed when John Kerry filled a room of 400-plus people in January of 2003, a year away from the 2004 caucus. I watched in awe as Governor Howard Dean filled gymnasiums with 800 people in rural towns a day or so away from the caucus. But I’ll have to say that I’ve never seen something as phenomenal as Barack Obama drawing 6000 people a year away from the caucus…

This dude’s for real. He’s authentic. He’s our next president.

With the charisma not seen in politics since John Fitzgerald Kennedy, Barack Obama has arrived on the national scene. He is the real deal and has my vote in the Iowa caucus!

It’s interesting - Hilary Clinton says she wants to have a “conversation” with America, but Sen. Obama’s easy, open, and more candid style comes much closer to a real conversation with us. His style contrasts sharply with Clinton’s scripted and carefully calculated responses. And yes, of course he can win.

Sen. Clinton demonstrates the same tragic character flaw as Pres. Bush by refusing to admit that the war in Iraq was a mistake. I don’t trust her judgement. No amount of money spent on a political campaign will change that.

I do trust Sen. Obama.

The Senator’s here to stay. The beauty and strength of Senator Obama’s campaign is his ability to appeal to all voters regardless of race. Sure some in South and even in New York may vote the “color” card, but that’s their problem. His agenda is broad and concerns all of us. He also answers questions which is more than Hillary did in New Hampshire yesterday about the Iraq war.

As for we “Southerners,” Obama’s going to do well here. Not only does the south have the largest concentration of African Americans in the country (65%), but Hillary’s vote for the war will hurt her with the Dem establishment. I just came back from a trip to NYC and there seems to be a love affair with Hillary going on (for good reason, she’s done extremely well in the Senate). However, Obama transends race in a way we’ve never seen before. He doesn’t wear race on his sleeve. He’s got a refreshing approach that will be contrasted with Hillary’s take no prisoners style.

I just returned from hearing Senator Obama speak in Ames, Iowa. This event had to be moved to a larger venue (the Iowa State University basketball coliseum) to accommodate the crowd. What a fantastic logistical problem to have! It is a sign of great things to come.
