Greetings all I was out in the bush and/or cumputerless for past few months so just getting caught up on everything. Im not sure about this two thread idea but here are a few facts from an exploration point of view.
It is my understanding that the kimberlite in the snap lake area has a magnetic signature so similiar to the country rock that it is virtually undetectable. The anomally they drilled when they hit the Kimberlite breccia was actually caused by the altered(metomorphised) cap rock. So in effect it seems that geophyhsics is almost useless in the area.
From an exploration point of view this makes finding pipes, dykes or kimberlite bodies much more difficult. One can then use other indications for pipes. I know some companies try seismic or if all else fails grid drilling.
Grid drilling means you grid off your most likely area and then you pick a drill spacing and drill holes untill you hit something. The theory is if you pick the right spacing and do the whole area if there is anything there you will hit it.The trouble is that it is slow and expensive.
A third method would take a approval from the government and no doubt cause a controverse but drain the lake and strip away all the overburden on the property. See what you've got.
I agree with georges list of facts and add what has become obvious Geophysics dont seem to work in the area so finding the sources of the mineral trains and other kimberlite bodies on the property is going to be difficult time consuming job.
