Thanks for correcting my memory. It was resolved satisfactorily, I thought.

I was in Alaska at the time but I don't remember threats to send in the state troopers.

Those little communities along the Inside Passage really need the ferry system. I can't imagine what those fishermen were thinking.


That was the closest thing to war with Canada since 1812. Our local hotheads wanted to send in the Alaska State Troopers with rifles...

In July, 1997, Canadian fishermen blockaded the Alaska Marine Highway ferry M/V Malaspina, keeping it in the port as a protest in the salmon fishing rights dispute between Alaska and British Columbia.
