I watched the 1980 "bomb," HEAVEN'S GATE, over the last couple of days. In the 3 hr, 39 min version, it's a good movie, if you can break it up and watch an hour at a time. This was the movie that coined the term, "Director's Cut" for DVD's. Only version around now.

What went wrong is patently obvious to someone of my opinions. The Director, Cimino, went off on location and was allowed to indulge himself. Classic case of a Liberal making a "message" movie. He wanted to show the poor immigrants being killed by the evil ranchers, and boy, did he take his time doing it. The first version released was 5 hours and 29 minutes long.

But it's a great film now to get out on DVD and pop your popcorn for.
