How we design lift for the performance of a plane.

The plane weighs a certain amount. You have to use wing design to lift the plane at a certain speed. Boeing plane generally lifts off the ground at 180 MPH. At that speed the lift is greater than the weight of the plane to get airborn.

As the plane speeds up, the lift increases accordingly, and the maximum speed will achieve the maximum height. The density of air changes as you go up. So air resistance reduces. And plane fly faster at higher altitudes.

Boeing designs planes over the last century only on wingspan size and its lift capability. On landing the wing area had to be increased to have more lift at slower speed. Lift is due to the speed of air above the wing is slower than beneath the wing creating a lift of the air under the wing.

Airbus design the lift on the fuselage, and has small wings.

When Howard Hughes design plans, the wings lifted the plane, but plane having no lift on the fuselage, which will drop down on air pockets making people air sick. So, today we design fuselage lift to stabilize plane going over air pockets when and where air cooling will give a downward draft. The lift is all in the nose cone design and the shape of the fuselage.

Such is the consideration of lift in airplane design. The importance is next to the center of gravity where we place the wings to balance the plane in the air.
