Frontal resistance considerations?

The frontal area is the resistance to cut thru the air.

Ford automobile company had found out in wind tunnel that 37 degree of slant has no more air resistance improvements achievable. This is the contribution of Ford R&D achievements to teach us how to reduce frontal resistance of airplane designs.

We can start with a point to pierce thru air with practically no resistance. Then we made the nose cone larger by less than 37 degree of slant. You can then have a very large fuselage and have the least amount of frontal resistance. But you get no lift if the sir flow over the top surface of the fuselage is not slower. To move the air slower, you lower the center of the nose cone and the air has to travel a longer distance over the top of the fuselage, and suddenly you have lift on the fuselage.

But a duck bill nose cone is better than pointed nose cone because more air will flow over the duck bill design giving more lift.

As you learn from these discussions, you will realize that my education at MIT; their aeronautics design taught was fundamental; but now, added small new understandings can make aeroplane design much superior today.
