Selling assets at Nortel has been happening for years. Isn't it a common occurence when an organization reorganizes to focus their efforts. Although you may not believe it, in Nortel's case, reorg is a very good idea and long overdue. Maybe, some of the new cash came from the closing of some of their Flextronic's transactions, or maybe some real estate transaction or maybe the BT affair reach a milestone? The spin-off of their manufacturing operations has dwindled on for years. In this case, cash generation means their plan is being executed. How could that not be good?

Didn't you see that they got a great deal selling their UMTS assets to Alcatel-Lucent? Competing against the likes of Ericsson, Huawei and the ZTEs of the world, they would of taken years to grab that amount of cash. Also, have you considered the benefit of the reduced salary expense in maintaining cdma engineers in both camps and both geographies.

Stay tuned, the details on the source of that cash and other developments are working their way through the tubes.
