imo mexico got a little safer with the election of calderon. he seems to be trying to do the right things. don't know if he'll succeed or not. mining stocks in mexico should be ok now for the short term at least. long term, i agree, USA, canada and i think australia too, will be just about the only countries i'll invest in.
