Jefferson was FIRST and FOREMOST a believer in INDIVIDUAL rights over the those of the Government.

His support of State's Rights was NOT an invitation for the States to suppress their OWN people for their own interests.

When he supported State's Rights he was doing so to counter-balance what he saw as a "grab for power" by the Central Government. He was afraid that George III would be replaced by an ELECTED Monarchy.

If Jefferson were alive today, I don't think he would be a "liberal democrat" or a "redneck republican".

I think he'd be an INDEPENDENT, with democratic leanings.
Just like me.
