M... changing the subject here. You identified a woodpecker for me last spring. Wanna do it again? Yesterday I was just staring out my front window and saw something move under the huge pine tree. It was a tiny bird, not more than 2-1/2 inches beak to tail. At first I thought it was a new hatch, but it's way too early for that around here. I watched as it skipped around, pecking at the ground. I decided it was a mature bird. It has a broad, almost white breast with the rest of the body black and gray freckles. The beak looked to be about 3/4 inch long and very needle like. It would fly up to the side of the tree and cling, woodpecker style, but not peck at the bark. It flew away after a while and was very fast, much faster than most birds I'm familiar with. I've never noticed this guy before.
