Yeah , it's very tricky, and very weather dependent. A chill or an extended period of rain at the wrong time wreaks havoc on the set.
Had a friend in the Valley with something (almonds?) that didn't taste good to bees, so it wasn't their first choice. Not a problem until his neighbors switched over to peaches, or something. Then, he would watch all the bees fly right by his place; even the rented ones. (He ended up leasing out the farm and going back into the medical field.)
