If you read my other posts at Si on "aerodynamic technology and clever usage", you know that Ford ran wind tunnel test of air resistance data and found out the rule of 37 degree slant for least resistance at air speed over 35 MPH.

The airplanes are now going with fuselage lift not wingspan lift design. The gasoline savings extended the range of the planes, and small planes can run non-stop coast to coast.

In automobile design too, the fuselage(car body) design can be clever to save gas mileage. The concept is quite simple. A smaller car needs only a small engine, because the car body and passenger weight is less. Newtonian laws applied.

But we can cheat, and design the car body with lift over 35 MPH speed, and a light big car lifted by air weighs the same as a small car and can use small engine run at maximum torque of the engine. Clever usage of technology indeed. A cheap technology to boot.
