All rights are de jure. Unless you believe in the religion of "natural rights" which I do not. You get the rights other people, or countries, are willing to give you.
Not invading a neighbor by yourself will not guarantee your right not to be invaded, but if you get together with a lot of other folks, you have a better chance. It's like being a society- only on an international scale. You could say the same thing about home invasions. Not invading your neighbor's house may not guarantee that you will not be invaded, but a general feeling that it is good to be law abiding, and following laws against home invasions does help to decrease the number of home invasions in a society where there are laws against such things, and where people generally agree such laws are acceptable. There will still be criminals, but people band together to defeat them. In your model, where you don't care anything about anything except repelling invaders yourself, you never get to the second step of having a society, and you will be at the mercy of anyone stronger than you, should you meet such an enemy.
I don't really believe in "morally wrong." I find it inefficient to think that way. If you are completely wedded to that sort of thinking, I doubt we will get anywhere in a discussion. |
