Vietnam to trial sending guest workers to US Vietnamese guest laborers will be able to work in the United States for the first time on a trial basis, the government said in a statement Wednesday. The statement on the government Web site (www.vietnam.gov.vn) said Vietnamese would work under a term contract in the United States on a trial basis, but it gave no dates.
The trial program would be carried out by the Ministries of Labor, Justice, Foreign, and Public Security.
After the trial finishes, the ministries will report to the prime minister about its outcome and the next steps to take.
The Labor Ministry has identified the United States, Australia and Canada as new major markets for Vietnamese guest workers this year.
Vietnam so far has sent laborers to Taiwan, Japan, South Korea and countries in the Middle East.
It has projected to send 80,000 people to work overseas in 2007, from 78,800 people sent last year.
Remittances from overseas laborers are an important foreign currency source to offset the Southeast Asian country's trade deficit.
Last year, the money sent home rose 14 percent from 2005 to an estimated $5 billion, the Finance Ministry said. |
