OT RE thermostats. I drilled a hole and put in a secret screw that immobilizes the thermostat until I undo it.

EDIT: I have never quite got over trying to convince my (some of them Phi Beta Kappa) fraternity brothers in college that our heating bill need not be enormous if when the heat was turned on, the thermostat were not turned up to 85. I explained that the house would not get warm any faster than if the thermostat were set at 70. "Oh no!" came a chorus back at me. "It DOES get warm faster if you set the thermostat as high as possible."
