There is no disputing the fact that the real turning point in Israeli winemaking (in terms of quality) is largely due to the Golan Heights Winery, which was founded in 1983. This winery re-wrote the book on making wine in a land where winemaking is as old as the bible itself.

If you are planning to visit the Golan Heights, you can take a one-hour tour, at the winery's expansive Visitors Center. What the place lacks in charm it more than makes up for, in sheer professionalism and attention to detail throughout the tour. This might be where my friend got his notion of the quality of Golan Heights wine. ...the real turning point... Technically, it doesn't say which way it turned.
