re: Of course, you know some of them will just say that they're against war in general. In which case, why even have a draft?

Of course, to make the decision bar higher. War is very serious business, lots of lives lost, families destroyed, fortunes made and lost. Inevitable atrocities that destroy lives and self-respect and national spirit. Crippled people for life that depend on the state for survival... if the state so chooses. Civilian deaths and sickness and injury beyond imagination. It's the most horrible aspect of mankind, and thus deserves the most solemn respect and profound consideration.

Iraq is a convenient example. Would we have gone to war if, say, 50% of the troops came from an egalitarian draft? Would you have been for the war if you thought there was a 50% chance you would be dodging bullets in Baghdad? Or your 18 year old kid? I don't know aboput you, but most Americans with real skin in the game would have said "no way".

Maybe the difference is that you think war should be easy and I think it should be hard. If so we will never agree.

re: I'm just pointing out the fact that the ones opposing the war on campus are voting for those who would draft them into the wars they oppose ...

BTW, that's not really true. There is only one politician I've seen that supports a draft. And in the last war, the draft-supporters were Republicans (the draft board were loaded with them); Dems were against the draft.

Don't confuse the Dem agenda with my opinion...
