hmmmm could we work Iranian copper deposits funded by jewish merchant banks into this somehow...

now I know you want a statement about bad stuff, so I will go you one better.

there is no evil and there is no good in human affairs. only animal farms and wrong headed people chasing and running from shadows.. perhaps allen ginsberg was right. governments operate from industrial paranoia. there is no need for defences or offense.. there is no such thing as a good police state. but people seem to think so. A member of the venezuelan palace guard once said to me that there were only three really oppressive polices states in the world. These were the Soviet Union (this was a few years ago), Canada, and Israel. In other words the infrastructure of the control mechanism, benign or otherwise, was the most pervasive and penetrative. Sort of like a highly sheared outcrop that was not being mined :) I see nothing to make me violently disagree with him. Although I would add USA to that mix, and of course there are many other excessively oppressive societies. In fact Myanmar, Indonesia, China, and Iran do not have excessive police structure, what they have is excessive and paranoiac need for normality.

what ever happened to live free or die? Now it is work for the government, live in a glass house, and die poor.

people have substituted the perceived excessive paranoid tyrannies of the past for new excessive paranoid tyrannies of the present. new gods, new devils, new methods, same agony of the innocent.

I will agree with you about racial injustice as the song says.. all over the place.. but our tyrannies now are not the less oppressive because the are far less overtly suppressive. We don't have camps and murder, but we don't need it. there will be revolution someday non the less. We see it all over and merely call it civic unrest.. etc.. it is far more than that.

The nazis were not comprehensively "everyman" evil. They were stupid. They did stupid things that were unecessary and worst of all they did not work. They pissed off their most valuable allies, the Ukrainians, with whose help they could have easily defeated Stalin. They were less evil than Stalin by a long shot. yes, I believe Stalin killed more people than Hitler. Not a great contest but a winner can be found nontheless.

What we have not done at all is analyse why suppressive police states arise which can imitate the excess of previous well denigrated regimes. We are still pathetically ignorant. All the freedoms that could have eliminated the rise of totalitarian power ... are they being eliminated by the self same philosophy of suppression of expression that allowed totalitarianism to rise in the first place? (to beg the question to illustrate the point)

Can we say one freedom to express is better than another? Well of course we can. but with it we have the tools to build another nazi empire we so abhor.

your book burning party, your match. the ideals are the same, only the uniform has changed.
