Boy, are you wrong. Where were you stationed, in the Adak division?

The entire Agilent division which was the heart of the old company was envisioned as a spin off because the PC division had a 22% profit on invested capital. The secondary reason was a tax dodge for Walter.

The printer division came after the PC profits, and became twice as profitable.

BTW, it is HP now "HEW". That is the department of Health, Education and Welfare. I can imagine how you got confused.

CPQ was envisioned to fill gaps in HP. They sold a shitload of PC so that the Printer division could slap a printer on each PC sold.

In midrange servers, HP had nothing in the x86 category that could touch CPQ's 20 BILLION dollar division.

Aside from that your post is pretty much correct, and we welcome you as a proud contributor to the thread.
