that does sound ridiculous until you think about the current situation in which pieces of paper with no intrinsic value are accepted as payment.

currently you can exchange gold into any currency you want, in any country, to buy things. I think eventually the local banks will start accepting gold for deposits etc.

Chase Bank just started handing out gold lunar coins for people opening new accounts. Except you have to deposit $600,000 to get a 1 oz. coin, LOL
