Toyota Offers Maps on Demand, a Rapid Map Updating Service
Feb 15, 2007

Digital mapmakers sometime refer to their data as static or dynamic – roads, which only get updated quarterly, or less frequently, are static data. Traffic, which changes by the minute is dynamic. Toyota, in cooperation with Japanese map supplier Zenrin, is introducing a new service, Maps on Demand -- which might be called semi-dynamic. Maps on Demand is offered on Toyota’s G-book Telematics service. Toyota promises a seven-day update cycle for map data in an area selected by the user. In addition to updating the close-to home data, all changes on expressways and toll roads are made every seven days. The updated data are delivered to the vehicle by cell phone.
