Hardly. Logic says (to me) he would be emotionally overwrought and desperate to imagine an explanation that somewhat exonerates the family from guilt (since in this country we tend to blame families for rampaging teens), and which makes his son less culpable.

Logic tells me emotionally distraught people don't reason very well. That's why they suggest that after a spouse dies you make no major decisions for a year. I imagine this event was much more traumatic than having a spouse die a normal death. I can't imagine how it would feel to have a child involved in something like this.
