I don't see the problem. You can insult someone and still feel that you can use them. I would think in intelligence you deal with lots of loathsome folks who you could easily slime, but who might also be useful. I can understand how someone you thought slimy, but who you also thought you could use in some way, could fool you.

I'm not seeing the problem. Although I do see a problem with how well the Iraqi exiles claims were checked out- though with Iran and possibly Iraq itself spiking the informant pool, I think the water was very muddy.
