JCP, > So, that the draft isn't going right now doesn't limit the President's powers at all. He could start it tomorrow.

If anything, that tells me that the President does NOT want anyone fighting in a war he or she never signed up for.

In other words, the President goes to war with the army he has. And even though it's all volunteer, it's a pretty damn good army.

True, people don't want a draft and would be even more against war if the draft were reinstated. But I suspect people would then just protest more against the draft than against the war. Which makes Charlie Rangel's position all the more indefensible, not to mention a double-edged sword if Hillary or Obama should ever make it to the White House.
