Steve -

Sound like may I should think about getting an SGI for the lab to play with ;) The O2's have nice boxes..

If you're getting an O2, I'd recommend the 200Mhz R5k with plenty of RAM.

that's where he tends to excel and make the most money.

That's true, but in the space that MSFT's trying to sell into now, the consumers are typically better educated about the issues, and care less about fluff. That's assuming that the users have some say in purchases, of course, instead of just management.

will likely be one of the first in many moves to make NT more scalable.

I agree with you here, I was just trying to point out how far they've got to go.

BTW: What happened to the MS/SGI NT on MIPS project?

AFAIK, NT was originally developed on MIPS machines (no crashing!). Demand wasn't high enough, though, so MSFT stopped supporting it with release 3.xx (may have been 4.xx). Note that it never ran (external to SGI) on any SGI boxes, but other MIPS based machines. It really wouldn't make sense to run NT on an SGI 'cause it wouldn't take real advantage of the hardware, NT being a more 'generic' OS.
