The period when Washington was President is passed over. We had some major problems during that era: Some of the biggest problems were caused by the lack of a sound monetary system. Banks were printing their own money, and it was very chaotic. Revolutionary soldiers were emigrating to bounty lands in Ohio, which was the way they got paid for their service. I read this book by William Donahue Ellis ("Jonathan Blair, Bounty Lands Lawyer") amazon.com (as a youth, eighth grade, as I recall, but it's an adult book), and that's where I learned about the lack of a money system. No mention was made of this in my American History classes.
