Gem, you are *way* off base on Christianity. It is first and foremost about "Salvation through Christ". Which is to say that you can be an angel on earth, and if you did not embrace Jesus as your savior, you are going down buddy! The concept of "original sin" means that you are a sinner no matter what. On the other hand, you can be as big of a sinner as you wish, but once you repent, the Lord will forgive you and you will have salvation because he paid for your sins with his blood. Being good and Christ like and all that stuff is just the dressing on the main salad. Go check this at any church you want and you will see that I am right.
Now I am familiar with the Christianity as you'd like to think of it. I have met such "Christians" from main branches (Catholics, Protestants, etc). I have news for you and for them: what they describe is not Christianity. They should open their own church and say, "Hey, here is a new religion inspired by Christianity. We believe that if you believe in Christ but you continue to sin, you will go to Hell. And if you are good, even if you are not a Christian, then you go to Heaven." But you can't call that main stream Christianity; sorry, but that word has already been registered and trademarked to mean something else.
The same goes for Islam, btw. I run into Muslims who cannot reconcile their understanding of modern life with various Islamic texts. So they try to massage the religion into agreement with their own beliefs. I don't have a problem with them claiming to be their own sect of Islam. But when they claim to be a Hanafi or a Bukharai or whatever, they are fooling themselves just like the Catholics who believe the Pope is just a man and can be wrong any time. Logical as their belief is, it is not what the religion they claim to adhere to is. |
