Lazarus, again you miss the point. The UN has helped avoid a world war since it was established, that's the success of it.
So the UN is responsible for the lack of a world war from 1815 to 1914? Almost a century?
What DID the UN do to prevent a world war? I always attributed to the realization by both sides during the Cold War that all-out war between them meant their annihilation and none of the leaders on either side was actually crazy.
They sure fought a lot of proxy wars though, didn't they? DENY THAT!

As far as most of the sites that you posted, those were civil strife within countries rather than attacks from another county. Under international law, no country has been allowed to unilaterally invade a sovereign nation, period. That's been the policy for most of the world and has been the policy of the US until we invaded Iraq. Try to keep on point, you're all over the board with your replies and they are not related.</i?
I think Dayuhan did a good job of answering this one. This is like saying murder is illegal, but so is going onto private property to arrest murderers. Either genocide is just fine or national sovereignty must be violated when it occurs. Take your pick.
