KLP, I'm sorry to hear about your loss. I understand what that can do to concentration and focus. I hope you get through this OK and that time will take some of the pain away.
When you get the time and feel up to it, however, I hope you'll revisit this topic because when I posted: "You can prop up any government of any sect you want in Iraq and the end result will be an antiAmerican, antiIsrael, radical, intolerant and oppressive regime that will be the nightmare of Americans," you never discussed it at all, much less discussed it further.
When you talk about fighting the war "better" you miss my point entirely. My point is that not only is there no "better" way to fight a war that cannot be won no matter how it's fought, even more importantly, there is no sense fighting a war where even if "victory" could somehow be achieved it would be no less of a disaster for America than "defeat."
That was the point of my many last posts to you and to Rough cut. That was the point that I wanted you both to address and that's the point that seems to keep getting lost in "tree talk" of fighting wars better, or empowering the moderates that don't exist over there.
I've looked long and hard for a war hawk with some sense who would address this issue and I've gotten close to bringing the discussion to this point but there's always resistance at precisely this place.
Sure, I've thought this through a lot and I think I'm right. The fact that no one on the other side wants to discuss this in real terms makes me even more certain that I'm right. And, trust me, with the lives of our soldiers on the line it's very important to me that I get this right. I've still got faces in my memory of young men who deserved this kind of debate at home long before they died. Ed |
