Oh, being a godparent for a Catholic baby requires more than just being baptized, you actually have to be a Catholic. You can't be a Protestant or non-Christian.

You have to promise that if anything happens to the parents, you'll make sure that the child is raised Catholic.

It often happens that the parents ask because they want the child to be baptized and don't know who to ask to be godparents. But in that case the church will ask someone that the priest knows to perform this function.

It's embarrassing to admit you just don't have that many close Catholic friends but the way we all move around it's really not uncommon.

One solution is for you to agree to act as a proxy for someone living someplace else who can't manage to get to the ceremony in person. That's perfectly acceptable, and she may not know about it.
