>> Catholics do not believe this.

Not true. I know that in recent years the Vatican has taken steps to make the religion more in tune with the time. But that does not change the foundation of the Church. Let's take your first assertion that God doesn't have to forgive you:

The power of Church is based on the principle that what the Church promises on Earth, the Lord honors in Heaven. Therefore so long as my priest gives me absolution, I am home free. All the rest is just trying to sound politically correct.

As to your second assertion, it has nothing to do with what I said. I said, that if you live like a an angel on earth but do not believe in Christ, then you are still going down. Your answer is: not if you have never heard of Jesus Christ. Oh gee...big huge difference...just what percentage of people in our time have never heard of Jesus? For all practical purposes, my statement stands correct. Yours is like trying to find a minor loop hole...very well, I agree that if you are born under a rock and away from all civilization and you live as a good person, then Catholics believe you may go to Heaven. Now how much difference does that make to the real point of the discussion?

ST

PS I thought you said you were not a Catholic?
