Aside from the recent evidence to the contrary,

What evidence?

You think Sadam changed? I don't. Maybe we should have looked into his heart? He was our friend when he was dumping chemicals on the Kurds and Iranians - because we hated the Iranians. He became our enemy (how soon we forget) when he invaded Kuwait. Kuwait was slant drilling under Iraq and a poor communication from our embassy led to the misunderstanding by Sadam that we would stand by. .......It's all been spin since then.

Morally you have to decide why we invaded Iraq. It was NOT because of terrorist - you are just wrong about that. The public has been spoon fed a constantly changing reason. The most recent reason for the invasion is to create a democracy. But they don't want a democracy! If you allow them to vote (which is the cornerstone of any democracy) they will vote to hook up with Iran. Why? Because most people in Iraq are Shia - the same as Iran. If we allow the democratic Shia nation to form - what becomes of the Sunni? ........We have created a monster.
