I'm not an expert on this particular weapons system, but it might not even be a huge screw-up. Many very effective systems had a lot of problems early on.

If it does turn out to be an expensive screw-up - You don't think that socialist countries have expensive screw-ups or that when governments make the economic decisions the leaders don't often get rich or make sure their friends get rich from the decisions?

I don't know about socialist countries but I know less militarisitic countries don't waste this kind of money on military flops. The US budget for defense is too big and allows for this kind of waste and excess. Its just gross.

And government contracting of weapons systems is hardly hyper-capitalism. Its a government contract, with government being the only buyer and only a few potential suppliers all of whom are more regulated than the typical company.

Tim, why are we pissing away $2 billion on an amphibious crapola machine? Who is this enemy that's planning to invade the US so that we need to stop them with amphibious watercraft? Its all a big crock to keep the defense industry in this country busy and rich.
