France also had a colonial place in what is now known as India - place called Pondicherry in south India. The Portuguese were in a place called Goa. The Brits had the rest - started as trade agreements between East India Company from UK and Indian kingdoms and resulted in brit empire occupation. In those days India was not 1 country - that region was a bunch of independant kingdoms ruled by a monarch for each.
