My son is one of those very intelligent scientists, but dont thank the average teacher for that. In our school district, and I presume most the smart ones are seperated from the others and attend special classes. In my sons case by the time he was in junior high school he was attending his classes at a local Univerity. When he graduated from HS he already had completed the college curriculum through his sophomore year (the furtherest one is allowed to go down here in HS). But, my son is not the norm. The norm sits in classes much like others have described here, led by teachers with no incentive to outdo others as the Unions keep them all based purely on longevity not ability. jdn

ps: And a lot of the credit goes to myself and his stepmother (an oriental) who guided him and encouraged him to push himself academically throughout his career. Too many parents are apathetic and dont involve themselves in the school activities. In my sons entire career I never once missed a parent/teacher meeting.
