The analogies to 'Nam irritate me.

One clear similiarity between Iraq and Viet Nam are the fact that both were/are undeclared wars in violation of our Constitution. Also both were/are more or less wars against geurilla armies. Both wars also have the uncanny reality that many times the amount of innocent civillians are being killed in the country in which the wars were/are fought than American military causalties. The reason why will we likely withdrawl from Iraq like we did Viet Nam is because there is nothing to win. How can you force people to live the way you want them to live? There is nothing to win. We are spinning our wheels in Iraq just like Nam. The Viet Namese would have been better off if we hadn't stuck our noses in their business, as they started getting their act together once the colonial armies were gone and they sorted out their internal disputes. In many respects the Iraqis were better off before we arrived, from the price and availability of motor and heating fuels to the availablility of electricity and healthcare. The situation is actually worse under American occupation.
