An important development in Sunni territory in Iraq:

nytimes.com

Apparently they have made a significant oil find and it is expected that more oil will be located in other Sunni dominated parts of Iraq (as I've always suspected would be the case).

This gives the Sunni tribal leaders a stake in Iraq's future economy, as well as politico-economic power. Thus, it decreases their interest in continuing resistance if they have oil resources located in their own territory.

I've felt since 2003 that it was CRITICAL to promise the Sunnis that we would concentrate oil exploration efforts within their territories. It would appear that we're seeing the fruit of some of these efforts.
