Very important, especially this time. If the big states move up their primaries, as they are threatening, it will change from a retail campaign (fought in living rooms and town halls) into a TV campaign, fought with expensive ads. The guys like Richardson would be out... Hillary and Obama would be the only ones that could compete.

But what will be interesting about this campaign is the debates. Without an incumbent there won't be one guy who will say "I only agree to 3 debates" to the challengers. I'll bet we get more debates that we can handle, from both Dems and Reps. If 7 contenders agree to any debate, which contender, even if you're the front runner, can afford to opt out?

All of the candidates had better run on an "After the last 8 years America deserves an articulate President" campaign.
